Day1. WELCOME TO UZBEKISTAN

Flight from Europe to Uzbekistan and arrival in Tashkent

Arrive in Tashkent, welcome at the airport, and transfer to the hotel for check-in. Time for rest.


Day 2. SIGHTSEEING IN TASHKENT

After breakfast and some time for rest, you will start your Spring Tour in Uzbekistan full of cultural discoveries. In the morning we invite you to visit the most ancient part of Tashkent – Khastimam, where you will visit the old madrasahs, mosques, minarets, and mausoleums of Central Asian Silk Road architecture. During the visit, you can visit the biggest bazaar of Tashkent – Chorsu Bazaar.  More sightseeing places to visit in Tashkent:

  • A couple of beautiful stations of the metro of Tashkent; Pakhtakor and Alisher Navoi are 2 stations of metro decorated in cultural/traditional style;
  • The place Mustakillik Maidoni, the park Amir Temur and the museum of Applied Arts.

The Month of March is full of celebrations of the spring festival – Navruz. If there will be a particular event on this day, your guide will inform you about it and we will make sure that you will have the best Uzbekistan Spring Tour.

Day 3. TASHKENT – URGENCH/KHIVA

Breakfast in the hotel. Early transfer to the Domestic Airport to catch a flight to Urgench (07:50). Arrive at Urgench airport at 09.20 and drive to Khiva (35 km), hotel check-in.

Breakfast in the hotel. Today you will visit one of the most impressive places in all Central Asia – the Ichan Kala citadel. With some 250+ monuments, this citadel is a museum under the open sky. The visits of the day:

  • The west gate – Ata Darwaza;
  • The blue minaret – Kalta Minor and its madrasa;
  • The Ark citadel with its summer mosque, reception hall, and the Observation tower (optional);
  • The Tosh Khovli Palace with the Harem;
  • The mausoleum of Pahlawan Mahmud with the biggest dome in the citadel;
  • The madrasa Muhammad Rahimkhan;
  • The old slave market in the East Gate;
  • The Juma mosque – a 1000-year-old mosque with its unique architecture and 213 wooden columns.

During the visits, you will have a typical lunch “Shivit Oshi” (food prepared with dill) in a traditional restaurant in the old city.

The March Holidays of Uzbekistan are held in a specific, typical way in each city. In Khiva, during your visits to the old city, you can see people cooking traditional Navruz Meals/Snacks and sharing them with the passers-by, a good variety of music and dance performances, enchanting walk of the artists of Puppet Theatre in the streets, etc. You can ideally match your Spring Uzbekistan tour with any of these events organized once in a year.

Option: One of the top spring things to do in Uzbekistan is Sumalak. Sumalak is a traditional food of Navruz, prepared only once a year. The preparation of the food takes one full day and the preparation is always accompanied by dances, music, many other traditional meals, etc. If you want to experience an unforgettable Immersion with the real local culture, you can participate in a Sumalak party in Khiva.

Day 4. KHIVA TO BUKHARA (450km, 6-7hrs)

After breakfast, you will take a long and enjoyable drive towards Bukhara. The road to Bukhara goes through small villages, cotton fields, and through the desert – Kyzylkum.

The highlights of the day: visiting the 3000-year-old Guldursun Kala citadel, encountering some of the rare camels in the desert, enjoying the beautiful panoramic view of the Amu Darya River.

You will arrive in Bukhara by the end of the day. Free time.

Day 5. THE SAINT BUKHARA (visits on foot)

Bukhara used to be the biggest Central Asian marketplace for the Silk Road traders and it is now one of the 3 most popular cities in Uzbekistan. Today you will be walking around Bukhara to visit its most wonderful monuments. The top activities of the day:

  • Mausoleum of Samanids (9th century);
  • Bolo Khauz – the mosque with 40 pillars and the citadel Ark;
  • The complex Kalon with the biggest mosque, the biggest madrasa, and the highest minaret in the city;
  • Chor Minor;
  • The monuments of the Lyabi Khauz complex.

In the evening, you will have a great opportunity to compliment your spring vacation and taste the Royal Plov of Bukhara prepared for you in a traditional house located in the old city. The typical family ambiance, the decorations of a 19th-century house, and the demonstration of the typical food of Uzbekistan will be one of the highlights of your holiday in Uzbekistan.

Day 6. BUKHARA – SAMARKAND (260km, 3.5-4hrs)

Breakfast at the hotel and you will continue the visits to the city of Bukhara. Today, you will visit the Summer Residence of the last Emir of Bukhara and the necropolis Naqshbandi – the center of Sufism of the region.

After the visits, you will be transferred to Samarkand through Gijduvan. On your way to Samarkand, you can visit the Gijduvan Ceramics Workshop and Sardoba – a 600-years-old water reservoir of the caravans of the Silk Road.

You will arrive in Samarkand by the end of the day. On arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel. time for rest.

In the evening, we will invite you to a Samarkand by Night trip to see some top monuments of the city illuminated in beautiful colors.

Day 7. SAMARKAND – the architectural highlight of Uzbekistan

Breakfast at the hotel. Today, in the very heart of the Silk Road, you will start the guided visits to some of the best sightseeing places in Uzbekistan. During the whole day, the city of Samarkand will keep surprising you with its top monuments. The best places to visit in Samarkand in spring:

  • The Registan and its 3 magnificent madrasas;
  • Bibi Khanum mosque and the bazaar Siab;
  • The Shakhi Zinda necropolis and its 20+ mausoleums all in one place which are decorated differently from each other;
  • Samarkand Silk Paper Workshop;
  • The Observatory of Ulugh Beg.

Day 8. SAMARKAND –  SHAKHRISABZ and the spring holiday

Breakfast at the hotel and depart to Shakhrisabz (80km,). With its UNESCO sites, Shakhrisabz is one of the most cities in Uzbekistan. The visits to Shahrisabz:

  • The crypt of Amir Temur and the mausoleum of his sons;
  • The complex of the Blue mosque with richly decorated mausoleums of the Saints;
  • The impressive ruins of the White Palace of Tamerlane – Ak Saray.

After the visits, you will return to Samarkand through the picturesque Takhtakaracha mountain pass. 

Tip: the road to Samarkand passes through the mountain pass Takhtakaracha. Takhtakaracha is widely famous in Uzbekistan for its traditional cuisine – Tandir Meat (entire lamb cooked during long hours in a traditional clay oven and flavored with herbs from the mountains). If you are a meat lover, you should consider tasting the Tandoor/Tandir Meat before arriving in Samarkand.

Option: the month of March is usually full of diverse celebrations of the spring holiday – Navruz. Among so many music, culinary, crafts, sports shows, and demonstrations there is a very unique event organized near Samarkand during the month of March – the Buzkashi. Similar to horse polo, this is the most ancient typical game of the people of central Asia. If you want to see a Buzkashi game, we can reschedule the day for going to see a Buzkashi game.

By the end of the day, you will be transferred to Tashkent through the Ghissar mountains and the Steppes of Hunger. Alternatively, we can make this transfer by train: At 16:00 you will be transferred to the train station for taking the high-speed train Samarkand – Tashkent (17:00). Arrival in Tashkent (19:10). Transfer to your hotel.

Day 9. FLIGHT FROM TASHKENT TO …

Depending on the time of your flight you will be transferred to the International Airport of Tashkent.
